People are so overloaded with work…how can we help them understand how important taking time to give feedback is?
focus on how feedback is or could be helpful for the individual.
The Webinar was extremely helpful. Especially in regards to employee/peer behaviors while receiving feedback; I’ve been mentoring an individual who will cry, roll their eyes, say “whatever,” and I think after listening to this webinar we need to go back to what expectations are for team processes and see what her thoughts are on those processes and the quality of our developed products. Hopefully bringing her more into the discussion and sticking to objectives will help.

Hi Phil, Here is a question from the webinar–how do you deliver feedback to a team that might not be performing at the level it could?
great question Dave – team dynamics certainly come into play when giving feedback but the steps are similiar:
Give feedback on behaviors that can be changed by the team
Be specific and descriptive—don’t generalize.
Give feedback immediately, if possible.
Control the context – in this case the team dynamics (sub groups, etc)
Make the feedback relevant and about the team moving forward.
Hi Phil–another question from the webinar–what is the key thing to remember when giving praise?
My motive or intent. is it to encourage the behavior in the future or to control or manipulate
Does anyone else have a question for Phil?
Phil, what is the one thing that managers most often get wrong when it comes to feedback?
Being specific and descriptive – too much generalze. People may reject feedback when they feel the quality of the feedback is poor or if the feedback is not verifiable.
