What do we do if the roles are reversed? What can employees do to help their managers achieve an A?
If you have a good relationship of trust then there is a chance you can give your manager feedback
Gary, great talk. ? – I only got 2 of the four “pillars” (caring and candidness). What are the other 2. Thx, Mark
Care – Candor – Accountable – Responsible
We have an supervisor who ignores and witholds work from an employee. The employee wants to work, learn and grow, but the supervisor is not supportive. How does that employee win at work?
If the supervisor is coachable – maybe a coaching opportunity
Garry Ridge and I are here to answer additional questions. I’ll start by posting some of the questions that we didn’t get to in the webinar. Please feel free to add your own as well. Be sure to refresh your screen once in a while to see new posts.
To ask a question, click on COMMENTS above. Once the screen opens, scroll down to the bottom of the existing comments and add your question.
Can you please give me recommendations for when the span of control of a manager is too great to meet with all the staff four times a year? I work in healthcare where a manager can have over 100 direct reports.
You could start w/ a workable number of interactions — would 2 work? Could you use other tools ? Conference calls?
Hi David,
You can ignore my question here then, since I already asked it at the webinar.
Hi Pete–was your question the role reversal question Garry answered above?
Yes, thanks.
Garry,
Great presentation! You are clearly a gifted leader and the kind of person I would enjoy working for/with!
My question is:
How can an established culture be transformed to a tribal culture? What are the steps?
TF
Hi Garry–here’s a question from the webinar that we didn’t get to. How would you help managers get started having one-on-one conversations with their direct reports? Any tips on how to get started?
I believe the core is to prove that “you mean them no harm”
Can you demonstrate you are there to help them perform personal magnificence.
Some starters maybe –
What does success look like to you?
How can I be a better leader for you?
What is getting in your way of success?
1. Create a learning culture
2. Reduce fear – replace it w/ clarity & communication
3. Communicate a clear vision
4. Develop and live by a meaningfull set of values
5. Define what success looks like – share it and have goals that drive towards it.
6. Establish the 4 pillars – Care – Candor – Accountable – Responsible.
7. Never give up!!
These are just a few
Another question from the webinar. How do you recommend helping people find the meaning in their work? Any thoughts or resources on getting started with this?
A place to start is – ask the question – what would meaningful work look like, feel like to you?
Can you define it in the org and then find ways of sharing it and communicating it.
Today was a special time for me – having the chance to share some of the learning I have experienced – more – it was special because you care enough about helping others win that you came and participated.
