RE. speaking speed, what differences are there when the audience’s native language differs from that of the facilitator?
Hi Ken. When you have an audience with multiple languages, the facilitator certainly needs to be aware of that and pace their presentation accordingly. It may be helpful to do some sort of survey prior to the training to guage the language capabilities of the participants.
What types of benefits/statistics for the learnings behavior changes having been published for instructor-led classroom vs virtual classroom? In others words what type of resources are available for managing the change curve from instrucor-led classroom attendance to virtual? Many of my constituents are use to traditional instructor on-site training and are having a hard time grasping this new technology believing that is won’t be as good or as effective. Any help appreciated!
I am not aware of any specific statistics on traditional versus virtual classroom behavior changes. What is more important is the before and after plan to get people using the behaviors. If face-to-face classroom is preferred, I would go with that unless there is some underlying reason that the people in the organization must master learning in the virtual environment.
Is there a template we should plan to follow when beginning the planning for a transition from face-to-face classroom to virtual? You referenced the specific needs for facilitator, producer, manager… but is there a criteria for specific goals and objectives?

As a (one man show) trainer and a newbie to webinars, (I’ll host my 1st webinar next week) I’d like to thank-you for a very informative session. Great tips I picked up… especially on using open questions.
Question: From a consultant/trainer view point, I usually charge my clients $x per day, max 12 participants. From your experience, do rates change for webinars? Do you have examples?

Hi Dean…the rate you would charge for a daily rate could easily be cut in 1/2 for a 2 hour session. It will really take you 4 hours of your time to do the 2 hour session.

Here’s a question from the webinar. In your experience, what is the optimal length of time for a virtual session?
Great question David. We try to keep our virtual sessions at 90-120 minutes in length. Beyond that time it’s more difficult to keep people engaged. Alan, additional thoughts?
Are there certification programs or train the trainer sessions available that will teach facilitator’s how to facilitate virtual training sessions?

Here’s a follow-up question from the webinar about the recommended length of time between virtual sessions. What’s your experience?
The lenght of time between sessions really depends on the overall goal and intent of the training. It could be anything from a few hours between sessions to multiple days. The key is to design your training to maximize the amount of fieldwork/learning that can be accomplished in between sessions. Here’s another question from the webinar. What makes a good Producer?
Obviously a good producer needs to be technically savvy with the platform technology. They also need to have good verbal communication skills in dealing with the participants and collaborating with the facilitator. Finally, they also need to have sufficient knowledge of the training content in order to assist the facilitator or fill-in in an emergency situation.
